Karen Margrete Jense, 79, died peacefully at home on February 16, 2009, after a brief, courageous fight with cancer.

 

Karen was born February 14, 1930 in Denmark to Alfred and Ingrid Nielsen. She married Peer Jacob Jensen, the love of her life, on December 26, 1952 at Roslev Church, the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. Karen and Peer immigrated in 1957 to Canada and subsequently to the U.S. They moved to Carmel in 1985 to enjoy their retirement years. Karen was an avid golfer at Rancho Canada and belonged to Carmel Valley Women's Club. Monterey Peninsula Volunteer Services, the Danish Lodge and the Second Monday Book Group. Karen and Peer enjoyed traveling, especially their yearly trip home to the "old country" to visit family and friends and trips back East to visit their children and grandchildren.

 

Karen is survived by her husband, Peer, and three children: Kirsten (Al) Down, Alan (Adair) Jensen and John (Aimee) Jensen, all of New York; and sister Inga Lykke in Denmark. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Brita, Jacob, Emily, Laura, and Peter. Karen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who shared her love of life and great sense of humor with all who knew her.
