Reverend V. Roy Blumhorst passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, with his family by his side at his home in San Juan Capistrano. In 1956 Roy married Vernette Rennegarbe in Okawville, IlL. A graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO he also earned a master's degree in education from St. Louis University. Roy worked as a Lutheran pastor for over 60 years. He wrote two books, "Design for Family Living" and "Faithful Rebels". He also co-wrote "Death and Birth of a Parish".

In 1990, Roy and Vernetyte moved to Carmel, CA where Roy became Pastor of St. Philips Lutheran Church. The church came alive. Pastor Roy retired in 2001. That same year he was diagnosed with Parkinson's and made it his personal challenge to remain as mobile as possible by not using a wheelchair.

He is survived by his wife Vernette, son David (Judy), daughters Joy (Marc) and Hope (David), six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his older sister Arlene.
